Gartner: Align BPM to Strategy
Demonstrating measurable improvements gained in high-value business processes is important to the success of a business process management (BPM) program. This research examines how best to identify key goals and performance implications of a business strategy, to identify processes that contribute the highest value to that strategy, and to select metrics to directly measure improvements to that value. Key Findings of the research are:
- BPM and performance management disciplines can be used together to build a set of integrated activities that uniquely address a strategic position. This will provide the information and context needed to ensure that BPM efforts are linked to strategic goals, and to demonstrate that they deliver value aligned to those goals.
- A process value chain is a valuable tool to help translate a high-level statement of strategic intent into an executable strategic plan.
- A structured approach to performance measurement is needed to track BPM-enabled process improvements. A framework such as the Gartner Business Value Model will help clarify the best measurement-options-based strategic goals.
